After 4 weeks of play, Angers is at a comfortable 4th place in the standings. Something that a lot of teams right behind would like, but for the Hawks, they feel like far away from where they should be. Last year at the same time of year, the Hawks had 26 goals scored, 13 goals against for 4 wins and a perfect record. This year, there are mixed feelings with a little 11 goals scored for 9 goals against.

Indeed, if the Hawks have already won three games out of four, only one game was finished in the regulation time. That was against Caen, and despite the five goals, three of them came in the last minute of play. For every other game, they had to go all the way to the shootout. If they lost in the first game against Grenoble, they would win the last two against Paris and Bordeaux.

For their captain, Charly Hallard, the will of putting the puck in the back of the net is missing. « It’s complicated offensively. We have the opportunities but we are definitely not sharp enough in front of the net. » The game against Bordeaux reflects that feeling, with the team keeping the puck, creating the chances but not being able to score.« We dominated in the first, but their goalie, Gasnier, did the job and Bordeaux managed to score one. After the middle frame, we came back with the same mindset and we managed to score two power-play goals. We hold the castle, but we took a double minor just at the end of the game and Bordeaux managed to tie this one. »

It seems like the Dalle* (a big need of eating, means that they will do everything to succeed, it is a common expression in Angers) is not there anymore… « not at all, we have « la Dalle », we have it with two huge comebacks in the dying minutes of the games, but we are missing that definite will of scoring, of putting the puck in the back of the net, past the goalie, and we won’t be able to win every game with only two goals scored per game.»

The Hawks d’Angers have managed only one game with more than two goals and it was against Caen. The captain of Angers was the main piece of that win with a hat trick and 2 assists. This weekend, Charly Hallard managed two more goals to put his total to 7 points in four games played.
